JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Instructional Specialist 

South Baltimore Learning Center, an established Adult Literacy Organization in Baltimore City, invites applicants for the Full-time Instructional Specialist (IS) position.  SBLC’s overall goal is to continue to work towards being a national model for community based adult literacy.

DESCRIPTION

 

Under supervision of the Director of Education, the primary responsibilities of the Instructional Specialist are, but not limited to:

 

Function as lead teacher

Mentor teachers (observe and coach approx 8 – 12 teachers)

Train new teachers as needed

Connect instruction and accountability

Develop and implement curriculum

Improve instruction and learner outcomes

Obtain instructor materials and books for each semester

Direct instruction of 4 hours/week.

Participate as member of Program Improvement/Data Quality team and attendance team.

Assist with identifying teachers’ professional development needs and create individual plans in conjunction with each teacher

Conduct instructional staff training and development activities as part of an overall SBLC Professional Development Plan

Attend 12 hours per year of staff development annually

Attend instructor meetings and present program developments and requirements

Support overall program and organizational needs

REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree in related field with five years teaching experience, including teaching adults.  Experience working with disadvantage and/or inner city population is required.  The desired applicant will have previous instructional experience.    

 

-         Strong verbal and written communication skills.

-         Professional appearance. 

-         Work well on a team. 

-         Possess experience in the development of curricula for the adult learner.

-     Ability to integrate technology into classroom instruction

-     Experience in coaching and mentoring instructors

-         Demonstrated ability to multi-task; organized; flexible, reliable.

-         Possess skills to make adult learners feel at ease with the SBLC program.   

-         Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (AM, PM, some Sat. hours).
